SCHS Meetings

 

Monthly business meetings of the Board are held on each first Thursday of the month at 1 PM.

Membership meetings are usually held on each third Thursday of the month at 7:30 PM. Unless otherwise announced, meetings will be held at the Stafford Administrative Center located at Courthouse Road and US Hwy 1.

1st Annual Hogtown BBQ

Event Location: 60 Butler Road - Fredericksburg, VA 22405
The 1st annual Hogtown BBQ Festival, hosted by the Union Church Preservation Project will be held at the former C. Ray Grizzle Community Center (Old Falmouth School) to raise money to help repair and refurbish the Union Church Historic Site, a key focal point for historic Falmouth.

 

Memorial Day Weekend Event at Ferry Farm

Relive old memories/create new ones. What was life like at Ferry Farm during World War II? For the Linton family it was life on a Stafford County farm plus living on the same land as our first president, a tourist destination since the 18th century. As a matter of fact, the Linton children gave tours to visitors who came to honor the first president during this time of national struggle.

Gallery Talk: Belmont’s Gardens

Gallery talk about the exhibition of archival photographs and related materials documenting the estate's gardens and grounds. Included are original 1927 photographs taken by the pioneering female documentarian of architecture and gardens in the South, Frances Benjamin Johnston (1864-1952), as well as photos taken by owners Gari and Corinne Melchers, who revived and expanded upon the historic gardens.

Adult Archaeology Workshop at Ferry Farm

How do we learn about the past? What can yesterday tell us about today? This workshop will focus on different methods that archaeologists use to piece together the story of the Washington family at Ferry Farm. During this 5-day workshop, participants will dig alongside archaeologists, tour the archaeology lab, and learn about the resources used to solve the mysteries of the past. Architecture, artifacts, and landscape combine to reveal the world the Washington family lived in. 9am to noon, daily.

Fabulous 4th at Ferry Farm

Come celebrate July 4th at George Washington's Boyhood Home at Ferry Farm! This annual event features historic interpreters, crafts & games, entertainment, a flag ceremony, food vendors, and much more. Great, old-fashioned fun for the entire family.
